Liverpool have qualified for the 1/8 finals of the Champions League after beating Ajax 1-0 at Anfield. A week ago, the Reds suffered their first loss in the group stage of the Champions League this season, after losing 0:2 to Atalanta at Anfield. Ajax beat Midtjylland 3:1. Jurgen Klopp made five changes to his squad, with the bad news being that Alison Becker missed the match. The reason for this is the sprain that the Brazilian received. Klopp revealed before the match that the titular guard may be absent for two weeks. Instead, Keller started at the home team`s door, playing a strong match prediction by today soccer events and making three important solders. Joel Matip returned to the center of defense. He partnered with Fabinho. Sadio Mane, Diogo Jota and Mohamed Salah started in attack, and Roberto Firmino remained on the bench for the beginning. Jordan Henderson and Curtis Jones were also starters.
Surprisingly, Traore remained among Ajax`s reserves for the start of the match. Alvarez started in his place, and Dusan Tadic acted as a central striker.
In the first minutes the two teams created promising situations. The guests took a short corner in the fifth minute, after which the ball was centered on the far post to Schurz, who, however, shot with his head over the door. Immediately after that, Liverpool created a cleaner situation. Salah returned to Curtis Jones, who shot very well from the edge of the penalty area, but the ball shook the right crossbar. Gradually, Ajax took control, but the guests arrived with only one good opportunity and it came after a shot from 25 meters on Mazraui in the 32nd minute. Kellaher, however, performed brilliantly and killed with one hand.
Liverpool`s camp was worried about another injury to a key player in the first half, after Andy Robertson was suffering from ankle pain. Tsimikas was even sent to warm up, after which the medical team helped the Scotsman, who eventually remained on the field until the end.
Three minutes before the break, Manet could have slipped dangerously to the right after receiving a pass, but Schurz knocked down the Senegalese with the price of a yellow card. Shortly afterwards, Manet broke on the other side and fired at Robertson, who fired, but the ball became entangled on the outside of the net. Liverpool were the better team at the end of the half, but that did not change the result. In the 51st minute the guests had a very good opportunity. Klaassen was left alone to intercept Tadic`s cross on the near post, but his header came close to the target. Six minutes later, Ajax was even closer to scoring, but first Kellaher shot a shot of Anthony, and then the addition of Neres hit the crossbar.
